My relationship with this lovely bride-to-be began very early of this year when she contacted me regarding engagement photos. Sheyanne, a Texas girl and her fiance Jamie, a Scottish lad, were incredible subjects. Their mutual love for life and each other was very easily captured through photography on a beautifully foggy day in January. Truly magical images resulted from that day - ones that they, and I, have since showcased.

I think we can all agree that a bride on her wedding day is one of the most beautiful images in life. The dress. The jewelry. The hair. The accessories...These beautiful details are put together so artfully, often with many years of thought and careful planning behind the choices, the style, the color, the “feel” for the day. This is a once in a lifetime moment and the brides I have been blessed to work with never cease to amaze me with their beauty and grace. Through photography, the feeling of this incredible day can be preserved through all time to be felt again and again, shared with loved ones, and serve as a reminder of how beautiful love can be.
Chuck and Bethany are two people who fall nothing short of amazing. Their relationship is so strong it has survived the great distance put between them by their jobs. They both work in the military, and during the time of the wedding preparation, they were both stationed overseas: Chuck was stationed in the Middle East while Bethany did her work in Asia. We kept in contact via phone, email, and Skype, and everything turned out perfectly. To set our schedule in stone, we met the day before the wedding to review the timeline and explore the venues. We decided to do a first look photo session at the Bed & Breakfast followed by shots of the couple in the vineyards of Stanley Lane and by the Riverfront. Getting those photos done first made it possible to smoothly transition into family portraits after the ceremony and, more importantly, get to the reception sooner!
Engagement sessions are a wonderful way to capture the essence of everyday love. The anticipation and romance is always very high, and is communicated naturally through the photographs. These sessions are generally an hour long, and they can take place at some really amazing locations. Even though I am able to suggest places, I love to hear the input of each couple because they usually have somewhere that is very significant to them already in mind. Most of the couples I work with choose to travel to San Francisco or to a local spot within the Napa Valley. The ideal time to do engagement sessions is on a weekday when wineries aren't packed with people, ensuring a more intimate moment.

A few weeks ago, I had the amazing opportunity to photograph a newly wed session with a lovely couple from China who currently live in the Bay Area. Having already gotten married, they were drawn to the allure of Wine Country for their post-wedding photoshoot. Originally from the Gansu and Jiangxi provinces, Huangmao (Homer) and Xia called me and set up an appointment to take pictures during their romantic getaway in Napa.
I truly enjoyed meeting Jessica and Ben for their engagement session in February, and was delighted to work with them again for their wedding at the Napa Valley Country Club in June. They were easygoing and ready for their big day. Surrounded by the impeccable greenery of a lush golf course, they radiated confidence together and set the tone for an incredible evening.
Kirsten and Frank flew out from Washington and their wedding was absolutely perfect. On a beautiful spring day in May, they had a charming ceremony and reception that took place at the Bardessono hotel in Yountville. Kirsten and Frank are both successful realtor brokers in the city of Kirkland. We had a chance to meet a few months prior to the wedding at Bardessono. This was the perfect time to scout the place so I could get an idea of the bride and groom’s personal taste. We discussed the timeline of the event as well as family, friends, and specific shots that were important for them to take. I was thrilled to work with them, and couldn’t wait for the big day to arrive.
Aaron called us to plan a candid proposal photography session on the 14th of June at the O’Brien Estate here in Napa Valley. With careful planning from the location’s tasting room manager, David Corkett, it was a huge success. Aaron and Meghan are a beautiful couple who set the tone for future proposal photography sessions coming this year. The groom-to-be cleverly picked the location for the shoot, as his fiancé’s last name is also O’Brien. Under the impression she had won this trip, had chosen the date, and upgraded them to a suite, she was already on cloud nine. Who knew cloud ten existed? Surrounded by lush vineyards underneath a bright blue sky, there could not have been a better place for this couple to begin the rest of their life together.
